“JSS Law College was my cocoon. When I left college, Ihad metamorphosized into a butterfly, ready to fly. This preparation to fly, to face the world was all provided to me by my college. I am very grateful to all my teachers and the non-teaching staff for having provided me a conducive environment for my growth. Fresh ideas were always encouraged and we always received constructive feedback. For a student, a the experience of a college highly depends on his/her peers. I was fortunate enough to find myself amidst some of the brightest minds who always steered me in the direction of knowledge and pursuance of excellence while simultaneously teaching me to be more sensitive and empathetic. I will forever be grateful to JSSLC for all that I have learnt there.”

“Given an opportunity to time travel, I would prefer the period spent in JSS Law College days. It was (of course now too) during its epitome name for its prestigious in the country my entry was sceptical. Amidst all distractions, timely suggestions, and support of the friendly faculty, I could manage to secure my candidature in my present position as Assistant Law officer in KSRTC. Though, my position in the organization is middle management, however has worked through all categories like Civil (land), Labour and contract which has secured me confidence to sustain myself elsewhere. My word to young pupils is that enjoy the life in college while making erstwhile effort to self-improvement and self being. Please don’t regret by fettering away the golden opportunity.”

“It has been 15 years since I have graduated from college and the memories remain fresh.

I am currently heading the Litigation and Alternate Dispute Resolution Practice groups at Lawyers Transcontinental, a multi – disciplinary law practice at Bengaluru.

We had a college reunion with my batchmates early this year and it was a matter of immense pride to see my friends flourishing in their chosen line of practice. While one must not discount the respective individual’s efforts and hard work put into their career, a mere reflection on the calibre of graduates being churned out each year from JSS Law college is clearly an indicator of the academic reputation that our college enjoys and rightly so. It is no surprise to me, then, when I come across an articulate advocate in court and I learn he/she is an alumnus from JSS.  The focus while at college was never restricted to academics. The five years in college flew past with participating in international moots, attending leadership camps, representing the college in Badminton and athletics at the University level, running the literary club, conducting awareness on environmental issues, being a member of the Academic Council of the Mysore University, debating across colleges at Mysore, participating in cultural activities and all this while preparing for class seminars and tests. I wonder if all this would truly have been possible without the constant support, belief, faith (and yes, the occasional push) by the wonderful team of teachers we had, led by our esteemed Principal, Prof K S Suresh.

I would be remiss to not mention a few of our lecturers- Smt Vineeta Prasad, Smt. Vanishree, Sri Basavaraju, Sri Suresh Kumar, Smt Usharani, Sri Prabhuswamy, Sri Nagendra Murthy, Sri Nataraju, Sri Shivananda Bharathi, visiting faculty -Sri Phaneesh, Sri Prasad and the ever-helpful librarian, Sri Prasad.  Good teachers they say make good students. The accolades that I enjoyed at college and the skills and abilities I currently possess as a lawyer   are majorly attributable to my teachers.

A message to those who have chosen to pursue law – There is no substitute for hard work , take advantage of the wide array of facilities that the college has to offer, participate in as many activities as possible especially those that involve honing up legal skills , make sure to intern under different areas of practice ; practice networking and last but not the least , feel free to connect with your teachers , seniors and alumni , they will always have good advice to offer.”

“I graduated from the College from 3 years batch between 2002 to 2005.  Its humbling to share that I topped the batch and secured first rank in LLB for the University of Mysore that year. It’s also my pleasure to share that I secured all the gold medals for that batch from the University. More than these academic achievements, the memories of the journey in Law College are more profound and cherishable. Friends of my college days are true friends even to this day and the memories of fun time spent with them are part of good memories of my life. The intense preparations during the preparations for inter college moot court and client interviewing competition in which I participated with my friends provided me an insight into life and dedication required for being an Advocate. Legal aid programs at villages and NSS camps organised by the college opened us up to the realities of rural life and legal problems and degree of legal awareness of the common people. The chamber visits and court visits during the final year exposed us to the challenges of the profession.

The discipline imbibed by our Principal Sri. Suresh Sir is sine qua non for being an Advocate. The simplicity and versatility of Late Venugopal sir popularly known as “Venuji” is etched in my memory. I fondly remember my interactions with various teachers in and outside the classroom specially, Sri. Nagendra Murthy sir, Sri. Shivanand Bharti sir, Late Diwakar sir, Smt Vineetha Ma’am, Smt Vanishree Ma’am, Smt Vidya Ma’am, Sri Nataraj sir, Sri Phaneesh sir, Sri Prasad sir and Sri Dharmendra sir.  I have continued my association with the college as an Alumnus and also by participating in moot court competitions conducted by college every year as one of the judges to the competition for most of the years. In the final year, I also cleared Preliminary exam of Gazetted Probationers Examination conducted by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) popularly Known as “KAS” Exam. After the final exams, I pursued Company Secretary course from ICSI (Institute of Company Secretaries of India) and final KAS exam. The next year I was appointed as Commercial Tax officer after the interview conducted by KPSC. Due to the appointment, I could not tread the path of starting the practice as an Advocate. But I continued my journey as a student through distance education and hold to my credit, completing final exams of ICSI and three master degrees including LLM in Business Laws, M Com in Business Policy and corporate governance, M A in English Literature. Being in Government service, I had the opportunity of serving at Various places of Karnataka like Chikmagalur, Shivamogga, Arasikere, Hubballi and Bengaluru in various capacities and I am presently working as Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes at Bengaluru. Having the law background has surely distinguished me in the service and given an edge over others as any administration involves execution of law in general and more so being a taxman administering GST (Goods and Services Tax) in specific. Law teaches you to be a student forever in the pursuit of knowledge. Living in a constitutional democracy, every walk of life is governed by law and provides an opportunity for legal profession and legal background provides an edge over others in endeavour of life.  Specialisation is the order of the day and legal profession has no exemption from it. My words of wisdom to the students of law would be to be a student forever and specialise in any area of your interest.

I would thank the college for providing me this opportunity to share my insights as a student of law and my journey so far. Life is nothing but some amount of time, energy and some profound experience and memories. Keep enriching it.”

“It was my immense fortune to join the prestigious JSS Law college as I have joined this college without any hope and without any aim.   It gave me an opportunity to meet different kind of people and learnt many things. One of the best things about this college is the cross-culture interaction between students from various parts of world.

My college education has exceptionally prepared me for a smooth transition from college to work. Law is one of those fields where you will utilize the things what you have learnt in college day in and day out in your work life be that as a lawyer or Judge.

Throughout my academic journey, I am pressed by the faculty’s and management’s dedication, expertise and willingness to go the extra mile to support students and to try new things. The knowledge I acquired in my 5 years law course has certainly made my life easier in Judiciary.

  1. Message to present day students:-
  2. Acquire as much knowledge as you can during your college days, certainly it will help you in a long run
  3. Don’t run for marks, gain knowledge.
  4. Law is a field which requires every day learning, the day you stop learning, the lawyer/Judge inside you starts dying.
  5. More importantly, make a profession of your passion, then you will be excellent.”
